Who is “behind” Galileo Partners ?Galileo Partners is an independent management company, wholly owned by its management team.
Who are your investors ?Galileo Partners manages funds on behalf of some of the world’s leading institutional investors : US and Asian investors (1/3), European investors (1/3) and French investors (1/3).
How does the investment committee work ?The investment committee is exclusively made up of the Partners. All decisions are taken unanimously. Therefore this allows for flexibility and reactivity.
Does the company need to be labelled “Entreprise Innovante” by OSEO-ANVAR ?No. We don’t need to comply with this regulation as the funds that we manage are FCPR and no FCPI.
Do you invest outside France ?We would have the means of investing globally. However we believe that cultural and geographical proximity between the portfolio company and the management team is the key to providing an effective support. Therefore the vast majority of our investments are located in Europe and mainly in France, even though we will always consider the portfolio’s companies’ future developments abroad.
Do you invest at an early-stage or do you prefer expansion-stage investing ?We invest in companies at all stages of development, from seed to spin-offs and turnarounds.
What size of investments do you make ?Investments range in size from less than EUR 1 million to EUR 5 million in the first financing round in which we participate. Over the lifetime of a company, we usually invest in the same proportions, with a maximum of EUR 10 million per company.
What equity share do you usually require ?There are no specific rules. That depends entirely on the amount of the investment and on the valuation of the company. We usually acquire minority stake in companies. Financing is carried out through successive capital increases. However we seek for a significant equity stake and we also take a majority stake in some companies.
Do you require a board seat ?We always require a board seat. We are an active investor and have found that sitting on the board of our portfolio companies allows us to make the maximum contribution to their success.
In what market sectors do you invest ?We invest in innovative companies developing high-value products and services i.e. information, media, electronics and semiconductors, energy, medtech… with the exception of biotechnologies.
What are your investment criteria ?Innovative projects Growth potential of the market Relevant and clear development strategy and above all, quality of the management team.
Do you invest alone or with other investors ?We invest as sole investor and also consider investing as a member of a larger syndicate.
